== Notes about the Squall ==

Never being known as a program that builds a team around one or two stars each season, the Squall have still been able to grab their share of conference championships and respectability. Many times the Squall have been able to capture a championship without a single player selected in the first or second team all-conference player selections. This is not to say that the Squall haven't had their share of stars, but individual stars have limited opportunity in the Squall team concept of play to rise on their own. Certainly there are many players the Squall fans would consider stars over the years, even though a individual players stats may not give him consideration for all-conference teams or to be recognized as a true star caliber player.

===== Gregory Dowling (S52-S55)=====

6'6" Greg Dowling attracted the attention of Squall scouts as a dead eye shooting guard out of Corpus Christi High. The Squall's top draft choice out of the season #51 crop of high school recruits didn't disappoint, as he easily made the transition to the colligate game and ultimately became the all-time leading scorer in the Squall program. A four year all-conference player selection who many still consider "in the group at the top" when discussing the best that ever played in conference #25. Dowling ended his career with a 58% plus shooting percentage and three trips to the NTT.

===== Alton Cage (S55-S58) =====

As a 6' 8" star center out of Columbia High School, Cage was a highly sought after recruit during the season #54 recruiting draft. After finally announcing he was heading to Abilene, there were many that thought he had made the wrong choice by joining a program devoid of developing true star potential. Alton unselfishly assumed the team leadership roll and proved to be the catalyst of the Squall successes during the season #55-58 era. Alternating between the post and power forward position, Cage provided the Squall with strong rebounding along with a great shooting touch down low.

===== Travis Releford (S53-S56) =====

Discussions about Squall all time leading players would never be complete without including the unbelievable at times play of point guard Travis Releford in the conversation.

Travis was a game changer! Down many times late in the game, the four year starting Squall point guard would somehow put on an amazing assist demonstration and bang!, pull out a win for the team. Adored by everyone with the exception of opponents, the free spirited, fun loving, Releford who grew up down south in Beaumont, Texas has now made his home in Abilene. Even today, as an assistant coach of the Squall, fans heads turn with a big smile to get a good glimpse of Travis as he enters the arena. He certainly exemplified what a strong team player and team leader is all about.

===== Artie Woodard (S27-S30) =====

Local born Artie Woodard is still remembered with great fondness by the Squall faithful. Graduating from Abilene High, Artie never questioned about where he was headed for his college career. Following the many Squall teams as young boy Artie had dreamed about one day taking the court in a Abilene gold and black team jersey. Woodard more than accomplished that dream during some difficult times for Squall teams. A three year all-conference teams selection, Artie as a young freshman center led the team to the conference championship and the conference tournament win in season #27.
