Recruits sign during the weekend after Game #24. Most often the weekend rollover is processed late Saturday night…sometimes we’re lucky though and the signings gets posted sooner!

Every team “loses” their seniors to graduation, and are assigned three freshman recruits. Each and every team always loses and gains three players – you cannot have any more or less per season within the framework of the Sim.

Attributes of your recruits are viewable through your “Coach My Team” page. You can also find the incoming recruits HS Senior year stats by clicking on the “My Team Stats” page, then click the “LY Stats” link – you will more detailed stats, including shooting stats. The combination of their viewable attributes and what you can interpret from their stats should give you a decent feel for their abilities before they even play their first game! Be careful of the weight you place on how the computer slots players – the computer logic isn’t the best guide for maximizing on-court performance (the cpu has been known to slot all-league performers on the bench and place backups or NA caliber players into the starting lineup). Still, the cpu “knows” all, so sometimes it can help decipher whether a recruit is towards the bottom/middle/top of an attribute level by it’s default position choices.

Also on your “My Team Stats” page, you will find your Freshman and Sophomore Class Recruiting Rankings displayed (complete rankings for all teams in all leagues can be found here: http://kwallace.echoechoplus.com/simrec/). Be careful with this information – although it does provide a general gauge of overall team talent, it is not indicative of future performance. Remember, not all talent is created equal –

Example 1: Comparing two “+5s” 6-5 FGGEGF vs. 6-3 EGEFFF Even though they may be “equally talented” in terms of the game's rankings, one is obviously more valuable than the other (the 6-3 recruit is a game-breaker at PG or SG while the 6-5 recruit has great post skills but not enough height to maximize them!)

Example 2: Comparing two “+3s” 6-11 GGFGFF vs. 6-11 FFGFEF Good tall recruits are harder to find based on the fact there are fewer tall recruits in general, so while both of these players should be useful the first recruit would be a much more valuable contributor than the second (shoots, defends, and rebounds better).

A few other words of advice on the recruiting rankings – it is generally believed that height does play a factor. Taller, but less talented recruits, seem to be given a bonus in terms of the SimHoops and Harwood Rankings. Also, there is some randomness in the rankings themselves so as to not giveaway too much logic behind the recruiting system. That means the #1 ranked class just might not be the actual best – but it is still right near the top. Most coaches agree that SimHoops tends to give higher weight to balanced recruiting classes while Harwood tends to place a higher value on classes with superstars (regardless of the other 1-2 signees abilities). Classes that rank high in both magazines mean they have both a superstar(s) and are balanced with talented ratings in each of the recruits.

One final note: some leagues are more top heavy and other are more balanced – it may take only two good classes (Top 50) to become in NTT level team in one league while it may take four good classes (Top 50) to become NTT-ready in another league. One rule-of-thumb is that it takes four “ranked classes” (Top 25) or two Top 10 classes to become a legitimate NTT Title Contender.
